The back of this photograph says “Aunt Bertha Tyler”. According to a letter written to my mom by John McCornack, the family historian, Jessie’s brother, Merton, married Bertha Studemann. This must be her.

According to the US Census Bertha and Merton lived with Merton’s parents in 1910 when my grandfather was born. So did Jessie and Albert.

My grandfather is third from the right in this photo. He is holding something under his right left arm. His grandmother, Jeannette McCornack Tyler is next to him to the left as you view the photo.

I wonder if his grandfather is the one looking at him, next to his grandmother. If so, that is Alexander Tyler, the veterinarian. The man to my grandfather’s left looks familiar — he might be Frank Harris, my grandfather’s stepfather. Jessie is missing from this photo, perhaps she is taking it.

I don’t know who this man is either. It came with the photos of Jessie and her friends. It could be her father, I suppose, but I have no way of knowing.

I remember seeing this photo before and thought it was 5 different babies, but looking closely I see it is 5 shots of the same baby, which I’m pretty certain is my grandfather.

It looks like this woman is in mourning dress. I love her direct stare at the camera. She reminds me of an apple core doll my mom once made.

I’m willing to bet this was taken before my grandma and grandpa got married. It could very well be Two Rivers, Wisconsin — but maybe it is somewhere else. Grandma’s dress looks like it was from the 1920′s, doesn’t it? I wonder who took the photograph.

My grandfather is the leftmost person in the front row. Many of the boys in this class seem a little out of sorts, or downright angry!

Albert Green

I’m pretty sure my mom told me that the man driving the car is Albert Green, her father’s father.

He and his wife, Jessie, were divorced in 1913. I know the date because I have a copy of the divorce papers. Apparently, according to the divorce papers, Albert deserted his family when my grandfather was about 2 years old or younger.

I think that this mystery man is also Albert — look at the nose and mouth.
